The Swedish telecom leader, Ericsson has demonstrated the first ever test link of what is popularly known as ‘3.5G’ –And it is being tested in India.
Currently 3G networks operate under a 384Kbps (kilobits per second) limit, with the new 3.5G technology users will be able to expect speeds up to 10Mbs (megabytes per second.) This is a signifigant increase, and is geared towards broadband features (i.e. video conferencing, mobile broadband to laptops, mobile TV, and mobile voice telephony.)
New cellular slots will be neccesary, asĀ Indian cellular providers operate in the 900 and 1800 MHz band the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Information Technology has recommended identifying new cellular slots (in the 2000-2600 MHz band) before the full potential of 3.5G services can be realised.
