Helio Launches Cell Phone Services and Devices

helio kickflipSince the inception of Helio last year by a joint venture with Earthlink and SK Telecom Korea - Their plan to introduce new multimedia geared 3G phones to the U.S. market fully capable of impressing all your cell phone mongering friends.

Helio is an MVNO of Sprint Nextel and uses their wireless infrastructure. However they do a phenomenal job repackaging sprint services with thier own user interface. The interface will be implemented in all future Helio devices, to allow for customers to easily upgrade their handsets to newer models with a familiar UI.

Right now there are two available handset models from Helio, the hero and kickflip. Both models are feature rich, and multimedia capable beyond what most carriers are even conceiving. Their service plan starts at $85 per month for 1,000 voice minutes with free night and weekend calls, unlimited data use plus text, picture messaging, and video streaming.

However not the cheapest of plans Helio is targeting a young and tech-savvy niche. For instance MySpace and Helio have worked out an exclusive deal, which allows Helio customers to post directly from their phone to their MySpace profile. Besides personal content, users will also be given acces to IGN, Spike TV, The Onion, as well as HOT (Helio On Top) which will enable content streams from MTV, CNN, and Fox Sports.

I will be keeping up with more from Helio, as from what I have seen so far they are on the cutting edge and certainly innovating the market with their superior technology from the east. I’m intriqued as to what they will offer next after such an impressive first release.

I really like this phone. It is great for socializing, as you can gift and beg your friends for games and music. Myspace integration is very cool, but I’m dissapointed in the lack of Bluetooth and short battery life.
