NTL Virgin Mobile UK Aquisition Details

virgin mobile ukNTL, the UK based cable operator announced this month to aquire Virgin Mobile UK for $1.68 billion. Virgin Mobile UK is the nation’s largest MVNO (Virgin uses the established T-Mobile network) with a base of 4.3 million customers. Virgin at first declined the sale, however NTL raised their bid earlier this month which led to Virgin Mobile UK accepting the offer.

NTL already has plans on creating the UK’s first and largest quadruple play” mobile, fixed-line, broadband and TV service under the Virgin brand.

Just recently has the chief executive Tom Alexander decided to leave the company following its acquisition, but will remain a consultant to Virgin Mobile for the rest of the year. Other shifts in the companies board members will occur as well.

It is a strong aquisition for the cable firm, and should play out in consumer advantage when more advanced mobile feature options will be added to their excisting service.
